The Walt Disney Family Museum

We are in San Francisco on a family vacation and the Contractor made one of my dreams come true – he took me to The Walt Disney Family Museum!!  I have always wanted to go! As a bonus they were having a special exhibition of Disney’s Nine Old Men, which were the Nine Men whom were Disney’s core animators for the major animations that we have all grown to love as the classics – such as: Pinocchio (1940), Bambi (1942), Peter Pan (1953), Lady and the Tramp (1955), and Sleeping Beauty (1959), and many more! The very talented Nine were: Les Clark, Marc Davis, Ollie Johnston, Milt Kahl, Ward Kimball, Eric Larson, John Lounsbery, Wolfgang Reitherman, and Frank Thomas.  Below are some photos of the Nine Old Men from the exhibit:

We weren’t allowed to take any photos/videos inside the exhibit because they had the ORIGINAL illustrations of the actual animations.  It was AMAZING to say the least.  For more information on the exhibit, Disney has all of the information here.  After the special exhibit, we got to go to the main museum, here are a few of the photos I took of the exhibit:

The museum walked us through Walt Disney’s entire life from birth through death.  It was really interesting – the tagline for the museum is, “The man. His story. His work. His innovations.”  For more information, I went to TripAdvisor and highly recommend you do the same – click here.  Here is a brief summary from me:

  • Don’t be confused to see the Disney name – this is not a Child’s theme park – DEFINITELY more a history museum for the older people in your party
  • Learn all about Walt Disney’s & Disney family’s life
  • Learn all about the creation of Disneyland
  • Learn all about the creation of the first animations
  • Find out more information about Audio Animatronics and get to play with a sample (a bird from the Tiki Room)
  • VERY family friendly
  • HAVE FUN!!!

Below is a video from my AWESOME day with the Contractor!

That’s it for now
